The best of Dutch Red Holstein Breeding took center stage

Last Saturday, the Dutch Red Holstein took center stage during the second edition of the Nationale Roodbont Show. With more than 200 Red & Whites competing in the show ring, it was an impressive day showcasing breeding quality, conformation, and passion for the breed. The two judges faced the challenging task of selecting the Dutch champions.

For competing GenHotel members, the weeks leading up to the show revolved around selecting, preparing, and fine-tuning their very best animals. Their efforts paid off, as several GenHotel cows attracted considerable attention in the show ring.

Representing the Albring family was, among others, the over 2.5-year-old Drouner Anna 2070 Red. This promising first-calf daughter of Crown Red from the renowned home-bred Anna cow family calved in October 2025 and presented herself exceptionally well. Competing in a strong third class of milking heifers, she secured an excellent second place, once again highlighting the strength of this cow family.

At the same time, the Albring family had another opportunity to enjoy a daughter group of their home-bred sire Drouner Potency Red (Powernap Red x Pat Red). Presented by KI Samen, the group consisted of second-lactation daughters of this Aiko male descendant, which made a strong impression in the ring. More details on this will follow soon on our website.

De Wijde Blik Corrie 679 Red EX-90 also demonstrated why she had already enjoyed success at regional level. This Excellent Crown Red daughter owned by the Nijman family had previously been named Reserve Intermediate Champion at the Wintershow Zwolle 2025. After calving for the fourth time in April, she peaked in condition just in time for the National Show.

Competing in a highly competitive class of senior cows, Corrie earned second place in her class, securing a coveted spot in the final lineup. Only Bontje 350, a fourth-lactation Paradise daughter owned by Melkveebedrijf Jageweg, managed to place ahead of her. Ultimately, both outstanding cows were awarded the titles of Senior Champion and Reserve Senior Champion, respectively.

In addition to conformation, the show also placed strong emphasis on production and longevity. During the special production class, cows with a minimum lifetime production of 80,000 kg of milk were honored during a special “cow walk”.

One of the absolute highlights and one of the biggest producers was Beeze Judy 16 Red, a Fontoy RF daughter owned by Martien van der Kamp. This remarkable tenth-lactation cow received an Excellent classification earlier this year and continues to demonstrate her exceptional longevity. To date, Judy has produced an impressive 127,823 kg of milk while still maintaining a youthful and vital appearance.
