Drouner Potency Red progeny group in the spotlight
On Saturday, a progeny group of the Dutch bred Drouner Potency Red took center stage at the Nationale Roodbont Show. After a group of dairy-type first calvers had been presented at the RMV Hardenberg exhibition last autumn, this national event provided the opportunity to showcase his first second-lactation daughters.
Drouner Potency Red (Powernap x VG-89 Pat-Red x EX-91 Olympian RC) was bred from the renowned Aiko family of Drouner Holsteins. In recent years, this cow family has produced an impressive lineup of AI sires, including Drouner Rednex Red, Drouner Biko Red, Drouner Effort Red, Drouner K&L Augustus P Red, Drouner Effektiv, and Drouner Abraxas Red P. The foundation behind these bulls can be traced back to KHW Goldwyn Aiko RDC EX-91 and her influential descendants throughout Europe.
His dam, Drouner DH Aiko 1445 Red, was one of the very few Dutch Red Holstein 2-yr-olds in history to achieve the second placing in her class at the European Championship in 2019. In that same year, she was named Reserve Junior Champion Red & White at the NRM. Potency’s nearly 12-year-old granddam, Drouner AJDH Aiko 1288 Red EX-91, is still going strong today and has been a key cow behind many successful breeding lines for the Albring family.
Welland Dirkje 377 (Potency Red x Andy Red) was selected by the judge as the best daughter of the group.
Potency has successfully transmitted these genetics into his own profile. In the latest NVI index run, he recorded 111 points for type (EXT) and 111 points for udder. His approximately 200 milking daughters are now confirming these breeding values in practice. While Potency was initially used primarily as a type sire, he can now be considered a true all-round bull.
His daughters are characterized by strong frames, wide rumps, well-attached udders, and functional feet and legs. They combine dairy strength with sufficient power and capacity. With +1,110 kg of milk, Potency also offers an attractive level of production. Furthermore, his profile shows very few weaknesses and no major extremes, featuring desirable teat length (107) and moderate stature (105).
