VG-88 for successful young duo at De Wijde Blik

Several highlights marked a successful period recently for De Wijde Blik (Nijman family). Not only did they achieve strong results at the annual Ommen and surrounding area Video Show, but the latest classification round also delivered impressive scores. With multiple young cows scoring at a high level, the herd once again demonstrated its strong combination of production, conformation, and deep cow families.

The standout of the classification round was undoubtedly De Wijde Blik RS Betty 2 VG-88. The Sandy-Valley EQ daughter had already been in milk for more than a year at the time of classification and impressed with both frame and style. After calving in February 2025, she completed a 305-day production of over 11,200 kg milk with 4.65% fat and 3.56% protein. The stylish and strongly built Dellia descendant had already received an excellent score last summer and improved again at her re-classification to VG-88 with VG-88 Mammary and a maximum of VG-89 for Type. This made Betty 2 the highest classified 2-yr-old for the Nijman family this day.

Betty 2 also proved herself in the show ring. At the Ommen Video Show, where only first milkers compete, the EQ daughter claimed the Reserve Championship title. Shortly afterwards, she calved again in April.

The Championship title went to Maranti VG-88,  housed at De Wijde Blik and owned by the Gunnink family. The Delta Abundant P RDC daughter is from a VG-88 Unix daughter and traces back through VG-89 Chelios x VG-89 Woodstock x VG-86 Shottle x Goldwyn to the well-known Marie 299 EX-90 (CB Allen). Maranti scored an impressive 88 points for overall conformation as well as all individual parts.

Also on the Red-side De Wijde Blik Corrie 683 Red (Goldcrest) delivered success with a classifcation of VG-87. Through her VG-85 Reflector dam, she traces back to De Wijde Blik Corrie 41 Red VG-89. An interesting detail within this family is that her maternal brother, De Wijde Blik Cor Red (Rubels Red), is currently stationed at KI Kampen.

From the high-producing Flora family, the more than 2.5-year-old Flora 127 RDC (Shakespeare x Crown Red) was also classified VG-87.

The well-known Golden-Oaks Mark Prudence cow family continues to prove its value within the Nijman herd. Several generations descending from her direct daughter Mayerlane-DK Hiawatha EX-90 have now been milked, a family renowned for combining strong production with solid conformation. During this classification round, second-calver De Wijde Blik Hiawatha 19 once again confirmed the strength of this line. The Gymnast daughter was re-classified VG-87, including an impressive VG-89 Mammary score.
