Dutch genetics dominate the Red Holstein LPI Top 10 in Canada
Drouner K&L Augustus P Red takes again lead in the LPI R&W list
Dutch Red Holstein breeding is once again making its mark internationally. In the latest Canadian national LPI ranking for proven Red Holstein sires, no fewer than five of the ten highest-ranking sires were bred by GenHotel members. An exceptionally strong representation in the Canadian top!
The absolute leader remains Drouner K&L Augustus P Red, jointly bred by Drouner Holsteins and GenHotel. Born in 2019, the Caudumer Solitair P Red son scores an impressive 3809 LPI, with strong underlying figures including PI 574 (Production Index), LTI 759 (Longevity & Type Index), HWI 666 (Health & Welfare Index), RI 580 (Reproduction Index) and MI 674 (Milking Ability Index). Augustus P Red also has an attractive production profile, with 665 kg milk, +29 kg fat and +44 kg protein. He has remained firmly at the top through several index runs and now leads the ranking by an impressive 150 points.
His pedigree traces back to the famous KHW Goldwyn Aiko RDC EX-91 family. His dam, Drouner K&L Aiko 1557 RDC VG-89, is a Silky Red daughter of Drouner K&L Aiko 1398 RDC VG-89 and descends directly from the influential Aiko cow family. The combination with Caudumer Solitair P Red produced a red and polled sire that is now being used worldwide, with the largest numbers of daughters currently in Switzerland (1,464) and Germany (1,050).
On the second position is Koepon OH Robin Red, with a score of 3687 LPI, while 3STAR OH Ranger Red and Koepon OH Ryder Red rank sixth and seventh with 3516 and 3480 LPI, respectively. This means that no fewer than three full brothers from the same mating are represented in the Canadian top 10! All three are sons of Rubels-Red out of the renowned brood cow Lakeside Ups Red Range VG-86. Red Range, originating from the Golden-Oaks Mark Prudence family, developed into a highly influential brood cow at Koepon.
The profiles of the three brothers are particularly impressive. Robin Red combines his high LPI with no less than 1286 kg milk, +69 kg fat and +57 kg protein, while Ranger Red excels in components with +0.53% fat and +0.22% protein. Ryder Red stands out with, among other things, a strong LTI (Longevity & Type Index) of 753 and RI (Reproduction Index) of 595. The three brothers have already proven their influence worldwide and have been successfully used as sires in several countries.
Alongside the four sires from the Koepon, Drouner and 3STAR genetics, Poppe Freestyle-Red is also highly ranked. The Gywer RDC son, bred by Poppe Holsteins, takes third place with 3653 LPI. Freestyle Red combines a strong LTI of 598 with an excellent HWI of 862 and MI of 627. He also has an attractive production profile, with 911 kg milk and strong components.
Freestyle Red originates from the well-known Poppe Fienchen family. His dam, Poppe Fienchen 1569 Red VG-85, is a Yeti RF daughter who has proven herself as a brood cow and dam of several AI sires. Although the bull is available through CRV, this Fienchen descendant has been used most extensively in Germany and Spain.
Poppe Freestyle Red
The Canadian top 10 is completed by Bomaz Rocky-Red-ET (3569 LPI), Bosside Rubel Rebel-Red-ET (3534 LPI), Bomaz Altariled Up-Red-ET (3364 LPI), Sherdon Elevated-Red-ET (3349 LPI) and Fleury Eternal-Red (3273 LPI). Rocky and Rebel in particular combine their high LPI with strong production profiles. Rocky is also a Rubels son, out of Bomaz Medley 8301, while Rebel is out of Bosside Seasaw Abby.
Just outside the top 10, we once again find familiar Dutch genetics. Koepon AltaTop-Red ranks 11th with 3265 LPI, followed by Koepon AltaKamara-Red in 12th place with 3234 LPI. AltaTop-Red traces through Koepon’s Sanne line to the famous Kamps-Hollow Durham Altitude RDC EX-95 family, a cow family that has produced numerous influential Red Holstein sires worldwide. AltaKamara-Red carries the Range genetics forward once again as a grandson of the 2026 Dutch Cow of the Year.
With five sires in the Canadian national Red Holstein LPI top 10, the GenHotel network once again demonstrates that Dutch genetics can compete at the highest level across international breeding indexes. From the Aiko family at Drouner Holsteins to the influential Red Range family at Koepon, strong cow families combined with focused breeding continue to leave their mark worldwide!
