Leading positions for BJ Holsteins and Willem's-Hoeve at Avondbloesemshow 2023

The Avondbloesemshow provided great highlights for GenHotel members Batouwe Junior Holsteins and Willem's-Hoeve Holsteins. In addition to the individual success of both participants, the breeder of the bull Willem's Hoeve Woody, the De Jong family, enjoyed an extra special moment due to the presentation of the displayed progeny group.

This evening started with the youngest participants which competed for numerous championships. Nick de Jong, who was named Best Showman in 2022, managed to defend this title and won, again this year, in his age category. Also Fay de Jong set her sights on the big cup. She also won a championship title twice before (2018 & 2019). At the 2023's Avondbloesemshow, Fay, just like her brother Nick, won the championship for 'Best Show Woman'.

For the older participants, a special Showmanship competition has been set up where a well-known name in the field competed for the big title. Gert Bakker of Batouwe Junior Holsteins, who also won the title as 'Best Showman' in 2022, also made it to the finals. With his own BJH Chief Ishine (Chief x Awesome Red x Seeger's Indiana EX-92) Gert entered the showring and was named Champion Showmanship Avondbloesemshow for the second year in a row!

The De Jong family also took their fanciest milking cows to this show. Like the 2-yr-old Willem's-Hoeve Rita 2491A, which took a leading position. Rita 2491A is a Mountfield Ssi Dcy Mogul from at least 9 generations of VG/EX in a row. She freshened back in December, calved from a DG NH Arrow heifer calf and was recently inseminated with Farnear Delta-Lambda.

Although the second calver VG-88 Our-Favorite Undenied, Willem's-Hoeve Rita 2134, had to settle for a fourth place in her intermediate class, Rita 2134 managed to flourish as the evening progressed. In the championship, the jury named the granddaughter of Willem's Hoeve Rita 579 EX-91 - Junior 2-yr-old B&W Champion of the NRM 2012 - to Res. Intermediate Champion. The Undenied x Gold Chip is projected this second lactation at 12,691 kgM with 4.54% fat and 3.38% protein.

Anyone who thinks that the success this evening for Willem's-Hoeve Holsteins and their well-known Rita cow family with the nice placements of the Mogul and Undenied was finished, is wrong. The third lactatation Willem's-Hoeve Rita 1910 EX-90 (Diamondback RDC x VG-85 Atwood) was also placed first in the senior cows class. The in June 2022 calved Rita 1910, also granddaughter of Willem's Hoeve Rita 579 EX-91, produced an average 305-days lactation of 12,632 kgM with 3.98% fat and 3.41% protein over 3 lactations. The beautiful Rita 1910 EX-90 was honored as Honorable Mention during the Senior Championship. Out of the Diamondback RDC, De Jong bred a Crushtime daughter, now in first lactation, and an almost one-year-old Fitz daughter.

The Avondbloesemshow also served as a stage for the progeny group of the in april debuting proven CRV-sire Willem's-Hoeve Woody (Double W Ranger x VG-86 Jetset), shown by breeders club Midden Betuwe. Woody, like his family members in this article, also comes from the Rita cow family. With nearly 500 lactating daughters in his proofs and over 170 classified 2-yr-olds in his type traits, the Ranger son is the current No. 4 NVI bull with 279 NVI. Also catalogue number 32, Share Erika 453 of Mts. van der Gun-Van Deelen, emphasized the strength of this top breeding bull as a participating Woody daughter. Besides named best udder in her class, she also won the Junior Honorable Mention title.
