Successful cow families continue to shine at Poppe Holsteins

The KHE I’m Good VG-88 family continues to expand rapidly and successfully at the Poppe family’s herd. With three new 2-yr-olds recently VG-classified, the herd once again demonstrates the quality of this cow family. Other influential lines, including the Wilder Kanu 111 RDC family, also continue to make their mark.

Recent classification at Poppe Holsteins resulted in several impressive scores, including three great-granddaughters of the influential brood cow KHE I’m Good VG-88 (Gymnast).

One of them is 3STAR Poppe Gretta (Picard x Palmer), who received her first classification earlier this year, scoring VG-86 with VG-88 Type. In many ways, Gretta resembles her granddam, K&L Poppe Goody VG-86 (s. Soundcloud), a full sister to Poppe K&L San Remo @VOST. Gretta is also making an impression in the milking parlor. After eleven months in her first lactation, she produced in 305 days 12,691 kg of milk at 4.03% fat and 3.48% protein.

The quality of the Poppe K&L Gorgina (Durable) family is equally evident. Her granddaughters and full sisters Poppe 3STAR Gea P RDC and Poppe 3STAR Glinster P RDC, both sired by Tirsvad 3STAR Member PP Red, recently received VG-86 at their first classification.

Gorgina’s influence extends well beyond the milking parlor. Now in her third lactation, she is still being milked at Poppe and has already produced 64,261 kg of milk. She has also proven to be a successful brood cow, with offspring including 3STAR Poppe Manitu, Poppe 3STAR Magic Bull and 3STAR Poppe Gigantic. The latter has topped Spain’s ICO ranking for proven bulls for the second consecutive index run.

The Wilder Kanu 111 RDC family also remains strongly represented at Poppe Holsteins. First-calver Poppe Kanu 2370 Red, a Poppe Freestyle-Red daughter, likewise received VG-86 with VG-88 Type. This productive young cow reached a peak of 51 kg of milk per day and has now been dried off after several flushes.

Interest in this cow family is also reflected in the sale of Poppe Kanu 2667 RDC (Universe P RDC), a heifer calf with a gNVI of 413 that has since been sold to CRV. With these new classification results and the strong performance of their offspring, these cow families continue to prove their value in the milking parlor, the show ring and breeding.

The Poppe Fienchen family also delivered an impressive result. Poppe Fienchen 1270 Red, a sixth-calver by Delta Norbert, was reclassified VG-88 with EX-91 Type. This great-granddaughter of the renowned Poppe Fienchen 580 RDC has now surpassed 92,000 kg of lifetime milk production, with more than 7,700 kg of combined fat and protein. Fienchen 1270 Red was already used as an embryo donor as a young heifer. One of her sons, Poppe Magic Match Red, is owned by KI Samen.

The Fienchen family has also delivered strong results in a younger generation. Poppe Fienchen 2342 P Red, now in her second lactation, was reclassified VG-87 with VG-89 MS. This young cow is a Delta Cartoon P-Red granddaughter of none other than Poppe Fienchen 1569 Red VG-85 (Born P RDC), the dam of Poppe Freestyle-Red, Poppe Flight Red and Poppe Swinglook Red. Fienchen 1569 Red is now in her fifth lactation and has a lifetime production exceeding 82,000 kg of milk.
