From GenHotel Selection Sale purchase to an influential brood cow

In 2020, the Mensink family spotted a young red Rubels-Red daughter from a proven cow family at the GenHotel Selection Sale. 3STAR OH Aileen Red, bred by De Oosterhof and GenHotel, moved to Sudena Holsteins as a young calf. Now, six years later, she has been photographed as a milking cow and has more than proven her value within the herd.
Aileen Red is directly descended from Batouwe Ailisha Salva Red VG-85, a Salvatore RDC daughter from the influential KHW Goldwyn Aiko RDC EX-91 family. This branch traces back to Kamps-Hollow Durham Altitude RDC EX-95 and has produced a long line of proven female and male descendants.

Following her purchase, Aileen Red has been extensively used for breeding at Sudena Holsteins. She now has more than ten offspring at the Mensink family’s farm. What started with the purchase of one young heifer has developed into a family branch of its own within Sudena Holsteins. One of her most notable daughters is Sudena Alice Red VG-86, sired by Poppe Freestyle-Red. Alice combines strong production with excellent conformation and was contracted by K.I. Kampen.
The next generation once again demonstrates how the Mensink family has invested in the genetic potential of this line. Sudena Alex Red, a grandson of Aileen Red, is now available from K.I. Kampen. He is a Worldcup son out of Sudena Ailee, a GP-84 Rammstein Red daughter of Aileen.
Aileen herself has continued to develop as well. Her production shows that she is not only genetically interesting: in her third lactation, she produced more than 14,600 kg of milk with 4.45% fat and 3.52% protein in 305 days. To date, she has produced around 65,000 kg of milk across four lactations. She is classified VG-88, including VG-88 for udder and frame and VG-89 for feet and legs.
The story of Aileen Red at Sudena Holsteins is a great example of the value of investing in a strong cow family and its genetic potential. What began with a young heifer purchased at the GenHotel Selection Sale has developed into multiple generations of animals at Sudena Holsteins, with genetics from the family now also being nationally used.
