New Proofs Germany

The German calculation center VIT has today published the April 2020 breeding values. During this proof run, the annual base adjustment was made for all traits, causing the RZGs of daughterproven bulls to drop by an average of about 1.2 points. The base adjustment for black and white young bulls is ± 3 points, for the red and white young bulls over 4 points gRZG. Because the daughter-tested top bulls, both black & white and red & white, come from the youngest years of genetic selection, they benefit more than the young bulls from the genetic trend. This largely compensates for the base adjustment in the proven bulls.

Daughterproven sires
Of the top 10 RZG active black-and-white proven bulls in December, only 2 bulls are still in the top 10, namely KNS Belsan and Mattis. The new list captain is Medon, a View-Home Day Missouri son with 151 RZG from the American Richmond-FD Pompey EX-91 family. His half-brother Melview, a Missouri son from Flevo-Gen Policy 1 VG-86, is in second place and was bred by Dukefarm and 3STAR Genetics, sold as an embryo to Netherside Holsteins and delivered to Qnetics via GenHotel. Missouri now has 3 sons in the top 10 and is, together with Balisto, main supplier to the top 10 RZG bulls. Both the former leader Monarch and the number 2 of December Spirio dropped a lot: they both went down 9 points RZG and are now in 58th and 65th position.

The top 10 of the active red-and-white daughter-tested bulls is almost unchanged. The only new bull in the top 10 is Stantons Eloped Red, the Dymentholm Sympatico RDC son from the Whittier-Farms Lead Mae EX-95 family, who now ranks 6th with 140 RZG due to great scores for the health traits. Wilder PP Red, bred by Wilder Holsteins, is still the highest homozygous polled red-and-white proven bull and has risen from place 22 to 18. Midwolder Nemo Red, a Nugget RDC x AltaIota bred by the Van Erp family, has just made his debut in the top 20 with 131 RZG.

High genomic young sires
The number 1 young sire of December is also this run the highest among the black-and-white bulls, namely Benz son Best Benz with 165 gRZG. 2nd and 3rd place are now, with 163 and 161 gRZG, debutants Gendry and K&L Sputnik RDC. Gendry is an all-round Garido son from the Lylehaven Durham Lila Z EX-94 family. Spark son Sputnik RDC, out of the highly productive K&L Finder Superfine, tracing back to De-Su BW Marshal Georgia EX-90, combines a lot of milk with favorable fitness scores. The polled half brothers KNS Simon P and Bachelor P were already in the top 10 last time and have now moved up (with 160 gRZG) to places 4 and 5. The number 2 in December, Broeks Freemax, went from 164 to 157 gRZG and is now at the 28th position.

Grando Red has broken the hegemony of Caudumer Solitair P Red and is the new leader of the young red & white bulls. Grando Red, a Gywer RDC x Mission P RDC from the Tui Onxy Nick VG-86 family, claims the number 1 position due to a huge production potential with good udder health and longevity scores. Solitair P Red managed to occupy the number 1 spot for 4 runs in a row and again maintains his breeding values. His full brother Snickers P Red had to admit something (from place 3 to 8), but is still in the top 10. Four Spark sons debut in the top 10: Sportsman Red, Speedy Red, Sanseo P Red & Sam P Red. Sanseo P Red also comes from the full sister of the dam of Grando Red. K&L Mannish Red, a Manana Red son out of K&L MW Flora (Megawatt RDC x Bolt RDC), rose from 7th to 4th this run. Mannish Red, from the Glenridge Citation Roxy EX-97 family, scores well for production and management traits and also transmits great udders.
